Playlist background: my fun mother and I have a little tradition: spontaneous dance-offs \/ dance parties. \u00a0This playlist is an homage to songs that have 1) either featured in our friendly competitions in the past or 2) are suitable for\u00a0consideration in the future. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Track-by-track commentary:<\/p>\n

1) Hooked on a Feeling<\/em>, Blue Swede.<\/p>\n

Anyone see\u00a0Guardians of the Galaxy<\/em> this summer? \u00a0I defy you NOT to have this summer-jam stuck in your head for days.<\/p>\n

2) Drunk On a Plane<\/em>, Dierks Bentley.<\/p>\n

This “perfect” country song (the title sums up the entire idea: “drunk on a plane!”) was this past summer’s main dance song, and also led my mother to know what a G6 is. \u00a0Magic all around.<\/p>\n

3) Party in the U.S.A.<\/em>,\u00a0Miley Cyrus.<\/p>\n

Back before twerking and tongue-sticking-out, Miley inspired a vintage dance-off in my household. \u00a0An oldie.\u00a0<\/p>\n

4) Beachin’,\u00a0<\/em>Jake Owen.<\/p>\n

Don’t want summer to be over. \u00a0<\/p>\n

5)\u00a0<\/span>Call Me Maybe,\u00a0<\/em>Carly Rae Jepsen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The song that created a million parodies. \u00a0Love to hate it or hate to love it, it’s a dance-off song. \u00a0<\/p>\n

6)\u00a022<\/em>, Taylor Swift.<\/p>\n

I was 22 at the same time as TSwift. \u00a0Aren’t we all sometimes happy, free, confused, and lonely AT THE SAME TIME? \u00a0Overwhelming emotions, Tay, OVERWHELMING!<\/p>\n

7) Rude<\/em>, Magic.<\/p>\n

The song that made me think, “do I like Reggae?” \u00a0 It’s Magic. \u00a0<\/p>\n

8)\u00a0Maps,\u00a0<\/em>Maroon 5.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Latest metaphor about love from the M5 boys. \u00a0<\/p>\n

9) Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)<\/em>, Shakira.<\/p>\n
