{"id":1181,"date":"2016-08-21T14:01:42","date_gmt":"2016-08-21T14:01:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.dwrl.utexas.edu\/davis\/?page_id=1181"},"modified":"2018-04-02T16:03:56","modified_gmt":"2018-04-02T16:03:56","slug":"video-argument","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.dwrl.utexas.edu\/davis\/courses\/animal-rhetorics\/assignments-and-grades\/video-argument\/","title":{"rendered":"Video Argument"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You will compose a short video slideshow made of 4 to 6-ish images and a few\u00a0text slides that make a very specific visual argument about animal rhetorics that is set to background music using Windows MovieMaker or apple iMovie (or some other you are already familiar with, like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kizoa.com\/\">Kizoa,<\/a>\u00a0or here are some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/the-best-free-windows-movie-maker-alternative\">others<\/a>, or if you have Windows 10, try the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/how-start-using-photos-story-remix-experience-windows-10\">Story Remix app<\/a>), and you will offer an explication of your argument\u2019s main claim and appeals in an accompanying 2 page analysis. Begin by writing a sentence or two that articulates the\u00a0<em>single<\/em>\u00a0claim your video will make; this claim should relate to the themes of this course. The video itself should then visually unpack an argument supporting that claim.\u00a0Remember, a claim isn\u2019t simply a topic but a <em>position that you want to advocate<\/em>, the evidence for\u00a0which your visual argument will demonstrate. Once you know the claim you want to make, contemplate the most compelling way to argue that claim\u00a0visually.<\/p>\n<p>Part II: The Video.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em>Invention<\/em>. Once you have a handle on the specific claim you want to make and the way you want to make it (the appeals that will best motivate a response), gather\/create and carefully organize 4 to 6-ish images and a few\u00a0text slides (or simply caption the images) that will work together to make that claim visually in an powerful way.\u00a0You may take your own photos or find images from a\u00a0public images site, like <a href=\"https:\/\/pixabay.com\/\">this one<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imagebase.net\/\">this one<\/a> but either way, you must give <em>photo credits<\/em> at the end of your video.<\/li>\n<li><em>Arrangement<\/em>. Add the images to Windows MovieMaker, Apple iMovie, or some other video editing software, and arrange them so that they\u00a0compose a compelling slideshow video.<\/li>\n<li><em>Style<\/em>. You should edit the timing and style of each image and add ambient or background music for the effect you want. You could add Youtube compliant music inside your editing software by uploading your own music or by downloading music through a public domain site like <a href=\"http:\/\/freemusicarchive.org\/\">this one<\/a>, or (if you don&#8217;t mind fewer choices) you may wait and do it in YouTube&#8217;s video editor. If you add your own music, be sure it&#8217;s Youtube compliant (open access).<\/li>\n<li><em>Delivery <\/em>and<em> Memory<\/em>. Once you\u2019re happy with your composition, <strong>publish it on YouTube,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>make sure it&#8217;s made public,<\/strong> and copy the URL it generates. Paste that URL at the top of your self-evaluation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Photo Credits<\/em>. If you use a photo from\u00a0your private collection, your photo credit will include this information: Image 1: Your name. Private collection. If you use photos from\u00a0public domain sites, your photo credits will include this information: Image 1: name of photographer, if available. htttp:\/\/the.url.goes.here.com. \u00a0So, if you use five\u00a0images, your credit roll would look something like this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Image 1: Jane Schmo. http:\/\/the.url.goes.here<\/li>\n<li>Image 2: Joe Happy. htttp:\/\/the.url.goes.here.com<\/li>\n<li>Image 3: Luke Skywalker. http:\/\/the.url.goes.here.com<\/li>\n<li>Image 4: Simone Biles. http:\/\/the.url.goes.here.com<\/li>\n<li>Image 5: Diane Davis.
