Below is a list of the\u00a0<strong>required fields\u00a0<\/strong><strong>of data\u00a0<\/strong>for each item you add to our archive. Hypertext gives you a shortcut to <a href=\"#Best Practices\">best practices instructions<\/a> for that field further down in this document.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dublin Core<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#title\">Title<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#subject\">Subject<\/a> (if applicable)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#description\">Description<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#creator\">Creator<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#date\">Date<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#rights\">Rights<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#languages\">Languages<\/a> (if text is present)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#type\">Type<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Item Type Metadata<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#item-type\">Item type<\/a> (choose still image)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#format\">original format<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#dimensions\">physical\u00a0dimensions<\/a> (<strong>for exhibited items only, all others optional<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#geolocation\">geolocation<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"#files\"><strong>Files<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>upload at least one image<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"#tags\"><strong>Tags<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>assign at least one tag from class list<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you have finished entering your data, you should\u00a0<strong>check the &#8220;public&#8221; box, select your group&#8217;s collection from the drop-down collection menu,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>click &#8220;add item&#8221;. \u00a0<\/strong>You&#8217;ve just entered one item in our archive! \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.dwrl.utexas.edu\/visualrhetoric\/2016\/04\/18\/walkthrough-posting-to-class-google-map\/\">Now you&#8217;re ready to add it to the class Google map<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a id=\"Best Practices\"><\/a>Best Practices for Cataloguing Data<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Dublin Core.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a id=\"title\"><\/a>Title. <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If there are legible words, list\u00a0<strong>words<\/strong> first. Preserve caps.<\/li>\n<li>If there are no legible words, list\u00a0a<strong>\u00a01-2 word description <\/strong>first. Capitalize only proper nouns.<\/li>\n<li>If there are no legible words or useful\u00a0descriptors (e.g. illegible graffiti), <strong>list the location first<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>List a descriptive type last. <strong>Types should be categorical\u00a0and should match entry in &#8220;type&#8221; field below<\/strong>. Sample types: tag, mural, wheatpaste, stencil, etching<\/li>\n<li>Sample titles: &#8220;STAY MELLOW wheatpaste&#8221; &#8220;NINJA STYLE KUNG FU GRIP tag&#8221; &#8220;3D glasses stencil&#8221; &#8220;Mopac pedestrian bridge rail etchings&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a id=\"subject\"><\/a>Subject (if applicable).<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Only enter a subject if you collected\u00a0a group of artifacts\u00a0at a single location<\/strong>. \u00a0The location should be listed as the subject to help group the artifacts by site. \u00a0Example: Mopac pedestrian bridge,\u00a0HOPE Outdoor Gallery. \u00a0If subject is applicable, <strong>refer to subject heading in description (below) as follows<\/strong>: &#8220;See related images under this subject heading.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a id=\"description\"><\/a>Description.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Give a <strong>simple,\u00a0<\/strong><strong>neutral, non-analytical description of the artifact, <\/strong>including potentially useful information about size, location, texture, proximity to other artifacts, etc.. \u00a0Example:\u00a0Etchings occur along Mopac pedestrian bridge in its entirety. Etchings occur near wheatpastes affixed to columns supporting Mopac automobile bridge (directly above pedestrian bridge). Pilings are difficult to access. See related images under this subject heading.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a id=\"creator\"><\/a>Creator.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>List the <strong>creator of the photograph<\/strong> (likely, you).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a id=\"date\"><\/a>Date.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>List the <strong>timestamp<\/strong> on the photograph in long format, e.g. April 17, 2016 10:42 AM.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a id=\"rights\"><\/a>Rights.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Choose the rights you want to reserve for yourself re: your photographic image. \u00a0Do you want to give permission to others to use it for purposes other than those specified under Fair Use? <strong>\u00a0Answer three\u00a0simple questions to <a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/choose\/\">create a Creative Commons License<\/a>\u00a0for your photographic work and refer to it in this entry<\/strong>. \u00a0I generally use the same license for all of my work (Attribution-Non Commercial 4.0 International).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a id=\"languages\"><\/a>Languages.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If there is text in your artifact, specify what language, if discernible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a id=\"type\"><\/a>Type.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The categorical type of graffiti. <strong>\u00a0Sample types: tag, wheatpaste, etching, stencil, mural<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Item Type Metadata.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a id=\"item-type\"><\/a>Item type.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Choose still image for standard entry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a id=\"format\"><\/a>Original format.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Type &#8220;photo&#8221; for standard entry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a id=\"dimensions\"><\/a>Physical\u00a0dimensions.<\/strong>\u00a0This information is required <strong>for exhibited items only<\/strong>. \u00a0Recording the dimensions for all other entries is optional.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a id=\"geolocation\"><\/a>Geolocation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>List the photo-associated GPS data in X, Y format. \u00a0Use positive X values for N and negative X values for S; likewise, use positive Y values for E\u00a0and negative Y values for W. \u00a0Unless you&#8217;re planning on leaving this quadrant of the globe, that generally means your GPS coordinates will be <strong>[<\/strong><strong>#.#, -#.#]<\/strong>. \u00a0<strong>Do not include brackets. Do not use any other format<\/strong>. \u00a0<strong>Do not round off; <\/strong>leave the long string of decimal points.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><a id=\"files\"><\/a>Files.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Upload at least one image. \u00a0Multiple images are acceptable, especially to give a sense of space, view, and\/or access.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Resize images to 1024x968p\u00a0max<\/strong>. \u00a0We have a 500 MB space limit on our archive and so we need to be economical with our file sizes. \u00a0It&#8217;s probably a good idea to keep the larger version available in your personal files in case your group or another group needs to request it.<\/li>\n<li>Preserve <strong>highest image resolution possible<\/strong>.
