I can tell you really put some work into this one by cutting out the car to make it fit on the chalk board! I’m assuming that this was for teachers since there is a chalk board and it says “…You’ll teach everyone…” Those were some clever words by the way… It seems like your ad will attract many teachers, especially the ones that have insecurities about their cars. ha

In this advertisement for Volvo, there is a car directly placed towards the center of a chalk board with an A+ written in red. The A+ located on the top of the car is written as its grade. Also there is a caption explaining that the audience will teach others what it means to be modern and sleek.
Volvos audience is directly pointed for teachers. Teachers usually mark their students’ paper with red ink, therefore placing the A+ on top of the car shows how it was a rating from a teacher’s perspective. Another important text would be from the quote “you’ll teach everyone…” This just explains with greater proof who Volvo is trying to attract.
The reason why the speaker added the quote “you’ll teach everyone what it means to be modern and sleek” is to bring out the main quality of teachers. They teach! So having this car would be an advance way of teaching for they wouldn’t have to physically explain anything to expand knowledge. Volvo is simply saying that by having this car, they would not only teach their students but everyone, with little effort.
These textual and contextual elements fit together to draw in the audience of teachers. By having the Volvo placed on the chalk board and captions talking about teaching, immediately Volvo captures the attention of teachers. Volvos advertisement being placed in the setting where teachers are shows how they are trying to speak to these teachers.

  3. Like Shayla, I think you have done a good job catering this ad toward teachers. My question deals with the tagline on the bottom. Aren’t teachers usually charged with teaching things like history, etc.? By promising them that they’ll be teaching people what it means to be “modern and sleek,” I think you’re making an appeal to teachers’ emotions. They want to be perceived as cool.

I like that your ad is simple and that someone can tell who your audience is just by looking at it. The chalkboard background and “A+” really convinced me that your audience was teachers. The “You’ll teach everyone…” line was pretty clever as well. I have no idea how you edited everything together, but it look great! Great ad!

I agree with Mr. Hixenbaugh, the car says A+ experience. The chalkboard behind the car would remind me about school. Therefore, I am assuming that it is targeting a teacher or student with the like for modern and sleek cars. This is without to have read your blog comments.
