Taylor’s Country Music Experiences

I have had so much fun this semester getting a better look at the genre of country music! I went to Erich Church’s, The Outsiders World Tour; watched Shut Up and Sing, the Dixie Chick’s documentary for the first time; visited Willie on 2nd Street; and had lunch at Austin’s famous Threadgill’s!

First of all, I’m jealous that you got to go to the Eric Church concert, he’s one of my favorite new country artists and I really wanted to go see him. I saw him at ACL last year and he puts on a fantastic show. Also I love Threadgill’s! The atmosphere is always great and the food is delicious. I didn’t get a chance to go this semester, but I feel I would appreciate it a lot more thanks to this class. I agree with you that this course was definitely an eye opener regarding country music, and you definitely had some great experiences that no doubt helped with that.

I feel like a lot of people went to the Eric Church concert and saw Willie Nelson (myself included), but after that it looks like you had a completely different experience than others. And I think thats awesome! It is as if you got a different side of country that not all of us got to experience. You honestly just made me really hungry talking about Threadgill’s. You didn’t talk about the food so much, but explained an atmosphere that I’ve decided to go try out. Great job!

It’s cool that you got to be on the receiving end (?) of taking someone to their first concert. I was the first timer in my group of friends and it’s refreshing to see how excited you were for your best friend’s first concert. It’s also awesome that you went to Threadgill’s. Is there a particular dish you recommend? Also, it’s interesting that you watched the documentary on the Dixie Chicks, because I don’t think anyone else in class did, though I could be wrong. I bet that was a really high tension documentary showcasing the two sides of the argument.

I just wanted to say good for you for making it to the Eric Church concert in that weather. My friends and I were thinking about going until the snow and all that hit that day. Also, I love Threadgills. I went there once for dinner and it was so good. There mac and cheese is the bomb. I also went to the Willie Nelson statue and didn’t realize the impact he had on Austin until this class. I am now really interested in watching the Dixie Chicks movie. I didn’t even know they had a movie and it sounds interesting! Really enjoyed reading your storify.

I went to Threadgill’s too and I absolutely loved it! Unfortunately I forgot to document it for this project. It was great to see all the artifacts that make it so historical. I think its interesting how much your knowledge of the genre has deepened growing up listening to so many country artists. The Dixie Chicks documentary sounds so interesting, I’ll have to watch it! I totally agree that their sound is unique and appealing, and I think every little girl our age grew up listening to that band before their scandal.

  6. Taylor, thanks for this post. I am glad that you learned so much about country music this semester and used the class as an opportunity to learn even more about a band that you liked watching so much as a child. Your comments in the 1st paragraph after the Storify are also helpful to me since I’m currently planning what I will do with students next semester. Also, I LOLed a little bit about everyone’s excitement about Threadgills. Y’all must have been hungry while writing your comments!
