CMA Spotlight

splash-mockup-bcEvery year I pop my popcorn, grab a comfy blanket, and plant my self on the couch for the next few hours. No, it’s not to watch the Walking Dead series marathon or any other show for the matter, but to watch the Country Music Awards.

Since I was about 12 I have watched the CMAs every year. I just love the CMAs! In my opinion it is probably the best music awards show on television. Not saying that other music award shows are not great, because they are, but there is just something special about the Country Music Awards. Maybe it’s because my dad and I used to watch them together when I was younger or because we would always try to guess which artist was going to win from each category. It could also be that because I love country music so much, I admire the CMAs as well and not to mention that Carrie Underwood hosted the show for the past two years. From the opening act to the closing act, the CMAs are just something spectacular to be a part of even if it’s just from your living room. One day I wish to be able to attend the CMAs and be in the same room with so many of the country artists that I absolutely love.

This year I was unable to watch the CMAs live but I the next day I was sure to follow my traditional routine and stream them online. It seems like every year they just get better and better. The CMAs never fault to put on a great show and do country music a great justice. It is such a great thing to see so many deserving artists honored for all their hard work. In addition to seeing all the awards presented, there are so many amazing performances that night. It’s like getting a concert from all your favorite artist. If you have never watched the CMAs, you definitely need to. I promise you won’t be sorry.

  1. The only awards show I watch every year (well, mostly every year) is the Oscars, and that’s mostly because my movie-obsessed friend and I started a tradition back when we were undergrads. I couldn’t tell you the last time that I watched the CMAs, and I guess it’s because the country artists that interest me the most aren’t usually the ones that are nominated. However, there are always “veteran” singers like Loretta Lynn and Vince Gill making appearances, so maybe I should tune in. Do you also watch the ACM Awards? They’re coming up in Dallas this year. I have thought about buying tickets, but they are SO expensive!

The CMAs are also my favorite award show because I’m much more familiar with the awards and nominees and I think they’re much more entertaining. When I watch other award shows, I find myself having trouble paying attention because I may only know one or two of the nominees in a category. I also find myself saying “Oh i do not like them” when a band goes on stage to perform. But when I watch the CMAs I find myself cheering for certain bands or fighting with myself on who I want to win the awards. I’m also engaged the whole time because I typically know and love all of the performers. I think the CMAs are more fun for me to watch simply because I’m more familiar with the people and bands associated with it and because I genuinely enjoy country music more than other types of music.

I love watching music awards programs. The Grammys and the VMAs are always fun to watch because there is always a slight chance that something ridiculous will happen (Miley Cyrus). The CMAs are cool because there are still a lot of historically great musicians there like George Strait. It was cool to see Eric Church perform with Strait at the CMAs this year, but I made a blog post that was trying to figure out why Ariana Grande was there as well. The performances are always top notch, and it is fun to imagine what it would be like to go to the CMAs.

This was my first year to watch the CMAs and it definitely didn’t disappoint! No wonder Brad Paisely and Carrie Underwood have hosted together for so long! They have such a great dynamic and chemistry. I’ve seen the ACMs a few times and i think Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan were the hosts the last couple of years. I know there’s probably a lot of differences but they seem pretty similar to me. Although I think the CMAs are always hosted in Nashville while the ACMs seem to move around from place to place. I really enjoyed all the performances and I love when different artists sing together like Loretta Lynn with Kacey Musgraves and Meghan Trainor with Miranda Lambert. Overall, I thought it was worth procrastinating on my homework a few extra hours!

Sadly I missed the CMAs this year, because I was working on an assignment for our Country Music class (Ironic, I know). However this is the first time in probably 4 years that I have missed the show. Luckily I got to go back and watch reruns of it on youtube, so I got to see the performances I wanted to see, like Loretta Lynn and Kacey Musgraves. I love Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood together because they are both just such free spirits that everyone is having fun when they are there no matter what the setting. The CMAs are definitely my favorite award show, mainly because the country music fans are just so loyal and always have been.

The CMAs are definitely one of my favorite awards shows to watch. Unfortunately, the past two years I haven’t gotten to watch them live because of work but I always watch it online later on. I can definitely agree that I love Carrie Underwood hosting, as well as Brad Paisley. They make me laugh all the time. Other than enjoying watching them make jokes and sing about current events in the US, I love to watch my favorite artist perform. It’s like a concert at my house but of course it would be much better to be there in person. I also like guessing who is going to win the awards and I never get upset when one of my favorites doesn’t win because there are so many great people nominated for the awards. I definitely can wait until the next awards show for country music.
