James’s Country Music Adventure

I always knew Austin was known for its rich music history, but I never knew just how historic the music scene actually was. The Country Music Project gave me an opportunity to do a little exploring and research, and I was fascinated to discover what this great city has to offer. First, I was able to enjoy a country music show from a third generation member of the Carter Family, Carlene Carter. Next, I took a trip to the most famous honky-tonk in Texas, the historic Broken Spoke. After that, I went to visit the Willie Nelson statue at ACL Live, and then concluded my adventure with a journey to the Texas Music Museum.

This is a really great storify James! I loved that your experiences consisted of seeing the rich history of country music and Austin. I completely agree with you about how you never even though to put country into sub genres. I always knew there were certain styles of country, but I never really broke it down and divided it into sub genres. I’m glad you had such great time exploring Austin and country’s history! I agree that this class has given me a new appreciation of country music. I’m glad that we have both learned so much in this class.

  2. James, I am glad that you enjoyed seeing some country music sites around the city of Austin. You clearly have a love for the history of the music (not everyone does), and so I am glad that you took advantage of the chance to learn more about that through this project. Now you just need to get back to the Broken Spoke in the evening hours!
