matt reflects.

This week I had the privilege of curating our class social media accounts, including Twitter, Instagram, and Spotify. Although I have accounts on multiple social media platforms, I am not very active and rarely post anything on the sites. I never tweet or post on Facebook, and I will maybe post a picture on Instagram every few weeks. Therefore, I have been dreading my media account week all semester. However, I knew the assignment was inevitable and figured I might as well make the most of it. It turned out to be a great experience, as I was able to express myself as a student at BC in a variety of ways.

The Spotify playlist was my favorite element of the assignment. I love to listen to music while I walk around campus and while I’m hanging out in my dorm. It relaxes me, and I have songs for all kinds of different moods. I listen to the songs in this playlist all of the time, especially when I feel extremely soothed. I love listening to them in the morning before I go to class, as they put me in a good mood and help me take on the day ahead. I love to lay down and close my eyes listening to these songs because they truly bring me back to hot summer days on the beach when I did not have a worry in the world, hence the playlist title.

Instagram is really the only one of my personal social media accounts that I actually use. I really enjoy taking pictures, so it was fun to look out for images to capture for the class. However, I did not really post about one particular day or event, but instead focused on little parts of the days that made laugh or made me happy in some way, whether it be the legendary class selfie,

the delicious Oreo cheesecake, or the beautiful foliage on Newton campus. I think pictures are a great way for people to express themselves, as I truly believe in the old adage “a picture is worth a thousand words.”

Twitter is definitely my least favorite social media site, but I figured for this week I might as well make the most of it and have some fun with hashtags. Having to tweet about class discussions and the readings actually forced me to think more in-depth about the material, though, and got me to ask questions. I also found some interesting links and videos to go along with some of the material. The Joker scenes were very entertaining to me, and connect well with my academic essay.

Ultimately, I must admit that I enjoyed the social media account week. The assignment allowed me to be creative and expressive in my own way, as well as helped me to reflect and think deeply about class material. I will definitely being paying more attention to the class accoutnts, and I am excited to see what my classmates will share with us.
