Midterm Blog

My phone has a direct connection to me and I actually hate it. Technology is growing so much in today’s world and it bring fear to my heart to see what our future will be like. The issue is we rely on it for our everyday events and activities but people actually enjoy this. My problem is I don’t like depending on an electronic device that can break or blow up at anytime. I try to do my best to interact with actually people than using my device to speak to people. I have to use my phone because everyday our coaches send us a schedule of what we have football wise. Sometimes, the even send emergency text messages where you could be taking a very nice nap you hear your phone vibrate multiple times, just know that your day is ruined. I enjoy my phone at times when I’m bored and of course when I’m listening to music, but other than that I try to do my best to stay away from it.

  1. Hey Malik,

I totally agree with you. We put so much trust into a 5 by 3 inch or whatever the dimensions our phones are, when in reality it can malfunction by technical difficulties or break by a one foot drop. I do however love to talk to people, but the problem is sometimes the people around get so distracted by their phones. It is almost like it’s an addiction. Then reality hits, and we actually have to face the music that we need cellphones now for everything. If we don’t have a cellphone we are lagging behind in terms of receiving messages from coaches, job interviews, emergency messages, etc. It is one of those things where we must adapt unfortunately, even though there are good things that come out of this little electronic device.

  2. Malik,

Totally feel you. When youre busy and your phone is a portal for work, the fun of it really goes away. Its more like dread, like when im interning and i get a phone call i shudder because i know im about to get a list of things i gotta do. All that focus will pay off though, it always does.

  3. Hey Malik,

I agree with your view on technology completely, and although I love having my phone near by most of they time, it would be really nice to take a nap without my phone buzzing the second I enter REM. I use my phone mostly when I’m bored and to open my spottily app, but besides that phones kinda suck.

  4. Hey Malik,

I totally get where you’re coming from with your fear of technology. In my mind, it has both great benefits and terrible downfalls. For instance, the fact that everyone is able to spread information with a few taps on the screen allows for faster sharing of information which can be helpful in dangerous situations. It has also been key to bringing knowledge to those that had previously been unable to access traditional sources of knowledge such as books or libraries or schools. I can go on but you get the picture. The major downfall is that we have seen a decrease in social skills. I watched an interesting video that my step-mom sent me the other day that actually discussed this. The speaker spoke about our tendencies to pull out our phone instead of striking up a conversation with those around us. I also try to limit the use of my devices but it is tough because I’m going to be working as a software engineer so my job will be to build out new applications.

    Cheers,

  5. Hi Malik,

As a self-admitted phone addict, I get where you’re coming from. Sometimes, I feel guilty about the amount I use my phone. I tend to think people weren’t meant to be staring at an electric screen for so much time. Regardless, I think you raise good points about how there’s no escaping your device. It seems like there’s few, if any, times where one’s phone won’t be going off for some reason. I also agree with you in regards to the future — it’s scary to think what devices will be like in 10 years.

    Best,
    Ezra

  6. Malik!

I completely understand the feeling of anxiety that a phone can cause. I like using my phone for music and social media, but texting can get a tad overwhelming especially when its work related. Good luck on finals.
