Media Account Project

MAJOR ASSIGNMENT (completed over one week during the semester, by sign-up sheet).

Prompt: This week, you are the class MC, the master of ceremonies. This week, I am handing over the keys to the kingdom (well, not the kingdom, but you get the idea) to you. You will be the primary curator of our multi-modal learning experience this week. Snap photos for our Instagram (note: limit 1 picture of food); update our Twitter with events we should know about; tell us your story through song; and blog about your role / experience on our class blog.

Components of the assignment (feel free to add!), but all four need to be completed to receive credit for completing assignment. Prompts below for ways to complete your four tasks.

  • Take charge of our Twitter (6-10 quality tweets)
  • Biopic Spotify Playlist
  • Instagram (4-8 photos)
  • post (by Friday of your week) to class blog (see “Blog” for further directions).
  1. Congratulations: Hollywood has finally made the call. ____ is filming a biopic about your life, and their research team has called about the mix tape soundtrack they’re compiling for the movie. Use Spotify to make “your life” playlist. To share, send me a Spotify link via by email, and I can easily link up your playlist to Tumblr.
  2. Tweet outside of class 6-10 times; either about class readings (questions, comments, etc), new articles for us to read, or an apropos video.
  3. (alternative) Live tweet a class (come up with a specific hashtag, appropriate for your day. You will essentially be taking notes for the entire class, so be clever and helpful! Remember, you’ll benefit from your classmate’s curation too!
  4. Tell a story (of a day, of an adventure with friends, of an outing, a memory, or a feeling) with 4-8 Instagram photos and captions (1 sentence max, each). This can either be a current event, or something you pull from your photo archive.
  5. Write one blog post (300-500 words) talking about your experience during your week.

Please plan on coming to see me during office hours and emailing me with any questions you have. Also, think of the students who have already completed the assignment as resources (think, how, why, and what should I build on what has been done before? Ask them questions about what they did and think how you want to put your own mark on the project.

NOTE: Please be respectful of our class accounts; our previous class Instagram accounts password / email was changed without my permission, and I was unable (after many frustrating email exchanges with customer service) to get access to it again. Tampering / messing with an assignment or a class account will be taken seriously and likely lead to the failure of this aspect of the course, and a reduction of your overall course grade (in keeping with the learning record).
