Media Curator Week

This past week I was the media curator for the class. As the semester comes to an end, I have many papers, presentations and exams coming up; I really appreciated having something different to work on. I was in charge of all of the social media accounts that the class has, including Instagram, Twitter and Spotify. My experience as a media curator helped me refresh my mind about the Twitter and Spotify applications.

I had a more difficult time using Twitter. Other than to see what others are tweeting, I rarely use my own Twitter account. I think the reason for this is that I have a hard time thinking about what to tweet. I had to open the Twitter application in order to log in to the class account and I noticed that I haven’t tweeted since like February. I tried my best to tweet on the class account, but I ended up just posting tweets about reminders of the work that was needed for class. However, I enjoyed being able to use the Twitter application to actually post something rather than just looking over other tweets.

Instagram was easier for me to use as it is the social media application that I use the most. I don’t usually post pictures as frequently as I had to for the class account, but it was still easier to find what I wanted to post. One of the things that helped me was that I went back home for Easter, and I had enough material to choose from. I was able to post a video with my little cousin who I wrote my iNarrative about.

Creating a Spotify playlist was by far my favorite activity of this assignment. I created a Spotify account a while back, but never really used it. I usually use other applications to play music on my phone or play Youtube playlists on my laptop. Being able to dedicate time to look for songs that I like, new or old, was very fun. I found some old songs that I love but I hadn’t heard in a while. My playlist varies in genre but it’s mostly country. The majority of the music I listen to on the daily is country, but I like a lot of songs from a wide range of genres. I enjoyed creating a Spotify playlist for the class, that I even found myself listening to it throughout the week.

Through this assignment I was able to use Twitter and Spotify again after a long time. I overall enjoyed this assignment very much and hope that my playlist is enjoyable! -JC

  1. Hi Johana,

I loved all of your posts this week as Media Curator for our class! My favorite thing is definitely your Spotify playlist. I also really enjoy listening to country music and so I loved the country songs that you added to your playlist. I listen to a variety of different genres of music as well so the diversity in your playlist was great!

  2. Hey Johana,

I feel the same way you do about Instagram being the easiest account to manage. I post a lot of pictures on my personal Instagram account so I do not worry too much about how it will be received. Like you, I also posted content that was easily accessible and reminded me of a good memory. The video showing your little cousin was a cool way of getting a glimpse into your first paper for the course. Thanks for sharing!

In regards to Spotify, I also really enjoyed this part of the curator assignment. It was a great way to reflect on my own music choices and how each of them evoke a memory or feeling.

    Cheers,

  3. Hi Johanna,

It’s interesting that you found Instagram easier to manage, as for me, Twitter was easier because I could just tweet about anything that happened in class or whatever was on my mind. Instagram was a little harder for me because I wasn’t really sure what to take pictures of and what people would like. Also I really like a much variety your Spotify playlist has, it keeps things interesting.

  4. Hi Johana,

I can totally agree with you that Twitter was definitely more hard to use than Instagram. I ended up just posting mostly reminders on Twitter as well. I have never been a big fan of Twitter and I usually just use it to look at other people’s posts. I haven’t posted on Instagram for a while now either. I find it harder to find pictures or videos to post on Instagram nowadays because I feel like those posts wouldn’t fit my audience. I feel like I am constantly pressured to find validation from my audience. I liked listening to your spotify playlist! I think putting together a playlist was my favorite part of my curator week because it made me listen to songs that I haven’t heard in a long time. It was very nostalgic.

  5. Johana,

I found your positivity about being a media curator in spite of your looming exams and assignment deadlines to be extremely admirable. I think its awesome that you can still enjoy being a media curator in spite of all the seemingly never-ending sheets of homework that college students have to deal with. Keep it up! Moreover, I found the tweets you posted about the due dates for class assignments to be helpful as I occasionally do check Twitter but almost never check Canvas.

Like you, I also had trouble using twitter, not only learning how to use it but like you said, thinking about what to tweet was a challenge for me too. But, it was a good learning experience. I really like all of the different genres you have in your Spotify playlist. I usually don’t listen to country but I really liked the country songs you have in your playlist.

  7. Hey Johana,

I really liked your Spotify playlist. I used a bunch of different genres on my playlist like you did, which I enjoyed a lot.

  8. Hi Johana,

Wow, you really hit the nail on the head in regards to spotify. I also remember the days when I had to make Youtube playlists to keep track of the songs I like. Spotify changed my life when it came out. It gives you unlimited freedom to make different playlists, highlighting different eras and genres. It’s an app that i think is taken for granted on many levels, but not by us, apparently.

    Nice job.

    Best,
    Ezra

  9. Hi Johana!

During my week as curator, I had the same experience as you did in regards to Spotify and Twitter. Writing tweets and posting instagrams is not something I usually do, but it was nice to post from an alias account. It was so nice going through my music and creating a playlist for the class. I think you did a really good job of highlighting your week as curator!

  10. Joana,

I agree that this was a refreshing assignment…A lot less stressful than studying for exams! I ended up using twitter the same way mostly for class reminders. I think its useful to remind the class about upcoming deadlines this way. I also loved your spotify playlist. Most people don’t know I am a big fan of country music and most of the playlists for this class didn’t have many, if any, country music. Nice job as curator!
