Week 8 Curator

I got a shot at being media curator this week with Jack. It was pretty fun, because it wasn’t really an imposition and didn’t feel like an assignment.

I had the most fun with Twitter, because I feel like it has the most creative options. On Instagram you can only post pictures while I felt I could be more creative on Twitter. I got to write silly things about our class which was kind of fun. On Twitter I posted GIFs, words and pictures, which is a unique platform.

I also had fun on Instagram. Whenever I took a picture during the day, I posted it to Instagram. I’m not normally a big Instagram guy, but I do check it about once a day. I take plenty of pictures though, so it wasn’t too tough to come up with content to post. I’m normally more selective about what I post on Instagram and haven’t posted anything since like November. I posted pictures of food for the most part, since that’s what I base my day around haha. I posted a picture of a cute puppy though, go check out Keyser. 10/10 would recommend.

On Spotify, I enjoyed making a playlist with a variety of genres. I normally have three different playlists on Spotify: Oldies, Country, and Rap. I combined most of the songs I’ve been listening to on each of those playlists and turned it into a 30 song playlist with lots of different artists and music. The only challenge I had was trying to find songs without explicit content for my rap songs. I eventually found enough that didn’t have it though.

Being a media curator was pretty fun.

  1. Hi Spencer,

I liked your twitter account. I think i have to say that i prefer twitter because it allows for us to post without the worry of how many likes we will get it. We can be more creative as you said. After my experience i want to try to be more active on my twitter account. I think old twitter posts would be fun to look back at because it reminds me of the six word memoir activity we did in class. I would love to be able to look back and see if i can remember why i tweeted something. Its such a cool digital record!

  2. Hi, Spencer,
So, I know you sent me the link to your playlist, but I do wish you had embedded it here, so others could have listened to it! 🙂

Otherwise, I really enjoyed your week as curator. You brought your own interests and experience to your take as Twitter representative. It’s always fun to see what people do the week before Spring Break, and I think both you and Jack had a fun and cheerful energy. I liked the puppy picture!

  3. Spencer,

Totally agree with how this didn’t feel like an assignment. It was more about how I wanted to make the audience feel and then my strategy to do so. I personally hate mixing genres in my playlists so I could not do what you did with your playlist.

  4. Hi Spencer,

I agree that Twitter allows us to be more creative with our posts. We also don’t have to worry about how many likes we get on a tweet. I’m not a big twitter user, but I can see how twitter is more fun compared to Instagram. I am also very selective on what I post on Instagram, so I usually only use it to check on other people’s posts. I like your variety of genres on your spotify playlist! I don’t really listen to rap, so listening to your playlist was very interesting for me.

  5. Spencer,
As a non-twitter user I never really thought about how many different ways you can post on twitterI . I think its cool how you posted not only written tweets but GIFs and pictures. Funny that you base your day around food, I feel like I do the same thing at times. I enjoyed your posts, nice job!
