The three experiences that I am choosing to write about are: rope swinging, ACL, and my Halloween adventure.
Earlier this semester, my alumni friends came into town and asked if I wanted to go on an adventure. When he said it was an “adventure,” I knew I could not miss out on this opportunity. After slipping into swim trunks, my group of friends followed the lead car into a shady and quiet community that turned out to be where the senior citizens stayed. My friend then reassured the group by telling us that this was not the site and we had to hop the friend and hike through the woods. We then finally made it to the camp site and spent the next thirty minutes drinking and swinging from a tree rope into Lady Bird lake. Through this whole adventure, I was using my phone for pictures from the moment we arrived to the sketchy community until I grabbed the rope. I felt my phone lifted the mood by providing my friends inventive to goof around because they were being filmed.
I went to my first ACL festival this semester. My journey began with a three mile walk to Zilker in the blazing sun. Once I had arrived at the venue, I spent most of the time recording the event on snapchat and taking pictures for friends. Most people their were taking pictures and recording on their phone and comparing the quality of their pictures, so I did not feel isolated by having my face in my phone.
This past weekend, I had my scariest experience in west campus celebrating Halloween. The night started out fine, as my friends and I were raiding the snack table at a rooftop party. However, things went wrong when we decided to leave by taking the elevator. My group squeezed fifteen people in what I would consider a small elevator. After about three minutes, we had realized that we were stuck inside and the elevator was not functioning. The majority were girls, so it did not help to see some of them panic. Luckily, I was sober enough to call 911, which calmed down the girls. It took about ten minutes, but the fire department finally came and forcefully opened the elevator door.
At the end of the day, having my phone on me saved the day.
Wow, I can’t even imagine what being stuck in the elevator must have felt like. I definitely would have been scared for my life. The reason being is because of the movie Devil. It’s about a movie where people get stuck in the elevator and eventually all get killed. Regardless of the elevator experience, I’m glad you experienced ACL as well as some of Austin’s nature activities. I’m now planning to go rope swinging now.
These experiences seem really cool. Your first ACL must have been really exciting! I’ve never been to ACL but am planning on going next year. Thats crazy that you guys got stuck in the elevator! Good thing you were able to keep everyone calm by calling the fire department, good job.
