Week 8 Curator

Hi Everyone,

This week I had the opportunity to be the media curator with Spencer. This week brought a lot of enjoyment with the creating of the Spotify playlist, the tweeting, and the instagramming. Like a lot of other people in this class, I am not an avid tweeter or instagrammer, so this week gave me the opportunity to post my thoughts from a new account that would not be linked to me. Being able to post from an account other than your primary account liberates you from judgement from your normal followers.

Since I almost never tweet, learning the ins and outs of twitter was fun and interesting for me. Until this week, I did not known you could add gifs or images to your tweets. It was also nice to use twitter as a platform to inform the other people in the class. It was so easy when a thought came to my mind to just open Twitter and post it.

On my primary Instagram account I have posted just 26 times in the four years I have had the account. When posting from my normal account, I am too preoccupied with how many likes I am going to get or who is going to comment to enjoy the post. During my week as media curator, I did not have to think twice about my post; anytime I thought something was picture-worthy I would just whip out my phone, snap a picture, and post it to the class Instagram.

I always enjoy making Spotify playlist, and I usually add songs to my playlist a couple times a week. The playlist I created for my media curator week has a lot of the music I am listening to right now. I really enjoy high energy, so that is why there is a lot of rap, EDM, and other upbeat music on there. Migos and Future are my two favorite artists right now, which should give some reference to the kind of music I like.

I had a great time during my week as media curator, and I hope everyone else enjoys their week as media curator too!

Thanks, JB

  1. Hi Jack,
I agree that when we post on our primary accounts, we get so distracted about how many likes or comments we are going to get for that post. It’s definitely nice to be able to post whatever you want without worrying too much on the class account. By the way, I enjoyed your spotify playlist! I am really into EDM too and my favorite artists are Excision and GRiZ.

  2. Hi Jack,

great job this week! i have to say i really like your paragraph on your experience with Instagram. Obviously we all want to get as many likes as possible, but i have to note that somehow overtime we have come to care way too much about likes. I think it should be more about how it makes people feel and if they become inspired or moved by the post. If we thought this way i think we would find ourself posting more. I hope you are more inspired to post on your instagram!

…also great playlist! really enjoyed it!

  3. Hi, Jack,
I enjoyed your week as a media curator. Like I told Spencer, I think the week before Spring Break has a special energy to it, and both you and he brought a nice levity and cheerfulness to the assignment.

I also liked how you used Twitter, especially. That’s fun you learned more about the platform. When I first dreamed up the curator position, I thought it would be cool if it could be a reminder / news around campus / cool things to do outlet. After all, the students are the boots on the ground. It really works for me to have the Twitter embedded on the website. I’ve got to ask the class how they engage with our social media. 🙂

  4. Jack,

I feel like we listen to the same kind of music. I saw a couple songs that I loved and knew that I wanted to see if you had any new music that I haven’t been exposed to or haven’t heard in awhile. I like to also split up my music to playlists that reflect my mood or whatever activity I am engaging in.
