This picture is of my roommate Josh and I right after our team won the National Championship this year. It was really exciting to be a part of the team this year and win our 3rd National Championship in a row. The Tower is a favorite landmark of mine on campus, and seeing it lit up orange with the number one on it was an incredible sight to see at the end of the season. This is also one of the only pictures I’ve managed to get with my roommate this year, so we were pretty lucky to actually find someone with a phone to capture this moment for us.

This next picture is me with my girlfriend Emily and a couple guys on the swim team at Mount Bonnell. I like this picture of all of us hanging out together, but it doesn’t do the sunset in the background justice. Mount Bonnell has yet to disappoint me with amazing sunsets and photo ops with friends. It is one of many great outdoor sights Austin has to offer, and I certainly recommend making your way out there at some point if yiu haven’t already.

At the beginning of the year, the freshman had a scavenger hunt to help us become more familiar with the city of Austin. We running all over the place taking pictures with people and iconic Austin landmarks every night. There were several pictures to choose from that scavenger hunt, but this one is by far my favorite. With four Olympic gold medalists currently on the team, this one wasn’t too hard to find. However, it has always been my dream to swim in the Olympics and finally getting to hold a medal was an awesome experience.

Overall, my digital culture hasn’t changed much this past year in Austin. I use social media a fair amount, mainly snapchat, which is where two of the three pictures here came from. Having my phone was useful in all these pictures, whether it was using maps to find directions to Mount Bonnell or using snapchat to show everyone the gold medal I held. I found my phone was the key to capturing all of these moments and allowing me to share them on various social media platforms for other people to see as well. We often take our phones for granted, but it wasn’t until fairly recently this was even possible at all. It is special to see how technology has grown and influenced our lives, especially through the use of social media.

  1. Hi Jacob.

First, congrats on your national title. The S&D team doesn’t get enough credit for upholding a long-lasting championship tradition. I hope you know there’s a huge contingent of Longhorn fans out there paying attention.

Additionally, I’m with you on team Mt. Bonnell. It might be my favorite place in Austin. Its views are amazing at night with the city lit up.

    Best,
    Ezra
