This week I was selected to be the class curator. The experience has given me a lot of insight on how different social media apps work. I’m not a Twitter user, so I’ve never used Twitter before. Being the class curator has given me the chance to check out how Twitter works and what people usually post on it. One thing that I found difficult was that I don’t think I knew exactly what to post. I was having trouble finding out what kind of posts would attract my audience. I used Twitter to remind my classmates when an assignment was due and tried to include some current fun activities that was going on in Austin.
I think that Instagram is easier to use than Twitter. This is probably because I use Instagram a lot and have already grasped the whole idea of how Instagram works. In my own personal account, I think about a lot of aspects before I post a photo/video. The time of the day really matters to me because it relates to how many likes I can get. Moreover, the quality of the picture is important as well. After two or three hours, if my post doesn’t receive as many likes as expected, I often decide to remove the post. However, using the class account didn’t give me this much pressure in thinking about whether the post will receive many likes or how my audience would like my posts. I just posted what I wanted to post and that felt nice. I didn’t have to worry about people judging me from my posts.
Overall, putting together a spotify playlist was definitely the most exciting in my experience as a curator. I got to go back and play old songs. I think my audience can see my personality just from listening to the songs in my playlist. From Kpop to EDM to Adele, my playlist includes a lot of variety in music. I hope y’all enjoy it!
Hi Tiffany,
One thing that I also found the most troubling was figuring out what to post on the different social media sites. I also focused more on class assignments and other activities that were going on around campus as well as around Austin. Instagram was also easier to use for me, as I used to be on Twitter, but haven’t in a couple of years so I had to reteach myself how to use the app. I love the diversity in all of the songs on your playlist and have enjoyed listening to them!

Hey Tiffany!
I am the same way about my Instagram posts, so I really related to how you felt about using the class Instagram. It was definitely refreshing to not think so hard about a post. I also really enjoyed the diversity of your Spotify playlist. You added some really great throwbacks in there!

Hey Tiffany,
I had a similar experience during my media curator week. I had such a hard time finding what to post on Twitter. I have my own Twitter account but I barely tweet or use the app, so I had to relearn some things about it. This is why I also found it easier to use Instagram, since it is an app that I use more often. I loved listening to your Spotify playlist as well!

Hi Tiffany,
First of all I’m shocked that you have never been on Twitter before! I’m glad this assignment let you explore that platform a little bit. I really enjoyed your Instagram posts, it looked like you had a ton of fun with it and you really knew what you were doing. As for your Spotify playlist, I love your taste in music!

Tiffany,
I can totally empathize with your struggles on Twitter! I think the last time I used Twitter was back in high school when it was cool and trendy to be using copious amounts of hashtags in a tweet. I definitely liked that you tried to find out what your audience would find interesting before curating your tweet. I personally tried the exact opposite which amounted to me just posting memes and weird stuff I find lying around my apartment. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed your blog post in its entirety!
Tiffany:
I agree that with personal Instagram accounts one has to think about a lot of aspects before posting a picture, such as timing. I also thought that with the class account there was no pressure about likes, timing or judgment. I also really enjoyed the diverse genres in your playlist.

Hey Tiffany,
I’m not big on Twitter either, but I was very surprised that you’ve never used it before. I think you did great as media curator, and I enjoyed the music on your Spotify playlist as well.

Hi Tiffany,
I like your point about one’s personality coming through via Spotify. I think it’s a little more difficult to tell someone’s personality through a playlist if you don’t know them, but I agree it can help supplement your understanding of someone’s personality. For example, I’ve had experiences where I’ve been shocked that someone I know likes a particular artist or genre. Thus, it can help you understand the different facets of another’s personality.
Best,
Ezra
