To be honest, the social media assignment was a lot tougher than I imagined it to be. I liked social media and the incorporation of technology in a classroom – I had all Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Tumblr accounts. However, using the class account was different from my own personal account because I knew that there was a different audience, and I didn’t know what to exactly post.

My favorite part of the assignment was making the Spotify playlist. I have had assignments from high school about choosing a song to describe myself, but I never made a life playlist before. At first, I thought about songs that had lyrics to portray my current life. I looked through my ITunes library, and thought No Such Thing by John Mayer had a great upbeat melody that accurately described how I felt about my life. I also tried to find songs that described my personality, how I felt about life in general, and songs I just loved to listen to. Some songs were bright and upbeat, and others were deep and meaningful. When I looked back on the songs I had chosen, I found that many songs were either about love or living life to the fullest. This made me realize how much I valued both, which was a cool thing to discover about myself.

For me, the hardest part of the week was posting pictures for Instagram. I didn’t know what story to tell through my posts or how to relate all the pictures to one thing. At first, I wanted to post random pictures throughout my day of what I did and how I was feeling. My first post was about the snow, my next one was about coffee. However, I became concerned because those two pictures didn’t seem to relate or tell a story. After talking with Ms. Barta during office hours, I realized that I knew how to connect everything; Boston had been bombarded with snow these past couple of weeks, and I wanted to depict how my week was affected by all of it.

As for Twitter, I went through the same trouble of choosing what words to tweet. Many tweets turned out to be also about the snow, but I tried to write about things that happened in class and relevant articles I came across. Overall, I had fun running this week’s account and learning about myself through my various posts. I’m excited to see how the rest does with this assignment, and hope that they learn as much as I did.
