Playlist title: Dance-Off Songs

Playlist background: my fun mother and I have a little tradition: spontaneous dance-offs / dance parties.  This playlist is an homage to songs that have 1) either featured in our friendly competitions in the past or 2) are suitable for consideration in the future.

Track-by-track commentary:

1) Hooked on a Feeling, Blue Swede.

Anyone see Guardians of the Galaxy this summer?  I defy you NOT to have this summer-jam stuck in your head for days.

2) Drunk On a Plane, Dierks Bentley.

This “perfect” country song (the title sums up the entire idea: “drunk on a plane!”) was this past summer’s main dance song, and also led my mother to know what a G6 is.  Magic all around.

3) Party in the U.S.A., Miley Cyrus.

Back before twerking and tongue-sticking-out, Miley inspired a vintage dance-off in my household.  An oldie.

4) Beachin’, Jake Owen.

Don’t want summer to be over.

5) Call Me Maybe, Carly Rae Jepsen.

The song that created a million parodies.  Love to hate it or hate to love it, it’s a dance-off song.

6) 22, Taylor Swift.

I was 22 at the same time as TSwift.  Aren’t we all sometimes happy, free, confused, and lonely AT THE SAME TIME?  Overwhelming emotions, Tay, OVERWHELMING!

7) Rude, Magic.

The song that made me think, “do I like Reggae?”   It’s Magic.

8) Maps, Maroon 5.

Latest metaphor about love from the M5 boys.

9) Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), Shakira.

Her hips don’t lie, and neither should you…on your assignments.

10) On Top of The World, Imagine Dragons.

Did you know that half of the band attended Berklee School of Music in Boston?

11) Timber, Pitbull and Ke$ha.

Enough said.

12) Moves Like Jagger, Maroon 5, Christina Aguilera.

Classic. Get moving, everyone!
