Final Say

My reason for registering for this class was because of the attractive word “iPhone,” in the title of the course. I thought the class was going to be a smooth ride. However, this class was full of challenges that was far from smooth. This class pushed me as a writer by requiring me to take on prompts that I was not used to. The first assignment was a challenge for me, because I have never written a narrative. Throughout college, I was only required to spit out facts and evidence in essay format, rather than trying to formulate a paper with a goal of capturing the readers attention in mind. Since I lacked the option to just list facts for my argument, I learned to be flexible and entertain the audience without my paper’s organization solely based on the thesis. Even though this was the very first major assignment, I believe that this assignment had the most impact on the narrative of this class. The expectations this class offered, was that you should break away from the traditional informative writing style that most of us at UT are used to for writing research papers. By doing so, the long run goal of this class would be to become a flexible writer. From my experiences in this class, I became a confident writer and learned the importance of having a good “Title,” introduction, as well as a conclusion. Professor Barta is an excellent mentor who pays attention to the improvements made over the course, rather than using a grading scale to rank the value of a student. Therefore, my advice for the incoming class is to listen to Professor Barta’s advice and to not ignore the small details, such as proper MLA format.
